Andrea is passionate about art education. She strives to bring playfulness to art making, to encourage students to reach beyond their perceived limitations, shed their self-judgment and connect with their creative wonder. Through her many years of teaching, the idea that still resonates the loudest with Andrea is “that women need to reconnect to with their creative sources.” She believes we need to return to place of playfulness.
Andrea’s own recent experience at a retreat helped her change her own perspective on art. Moving from a teacher to a student and sharing with others, she watched as strangers connected, walls were broken down and a community came together. Everyone understood that art “doesn’t have to be perfect or right.”
Andrea’s decision to create a similar retreat locally was borne of this amazing and wonderful time spent with other women. Her vision is to host a retreat where women can come together, breathe, connect and rediscover their true selves. She believes that relating to our creative souls makes us strong and that by incorporating known art teachers, yoga, wholesome food and non intimidating mixed media art in an inspirational setting will make space for this discovery and creativity.
In a society where women often put themselves last, Andrea hopes for a space and time to give them an opportunity to relax, reflect and be true.
